Brit milah, the ritual circumcision of Jewish baby boys on the eighth day after birth, is one of the most sacred traditions of Jewish life. The Rabbinical Assembly, in conjunction with the Jewish Theological Seminary, periodically holds a course for physicians, entitled "Brit Kodesh, A Sacred Covenant: A Conference on Brit Milah." Qualified physicians who are clinically trained and highly experienced in medical circumcision, and who are practicing Conservative Jews, can apply with the recommendation of their rabbis and the approval of their local Rabbinical Assembly regions. The course was last held in November 2003 and will not be held again in 2004 or 2005. If you are looking for a qualified mohel to conduct the brit milah of your child, please contact your local Conservative rabbi. Click here for a list of Conservative congregations and rabbis.
